For the second year running, the Jeep® brand joined surfers competing in the European events of the prestigious World Surf League (WSL) Men's and Women's Samsung Galaxy Championship Tour (CT), which took place in Portugal and France from end September to end October.

A total of three WSL events* took place in Europe this season, including one in France in October and two in Portugal in September and October respectively.

The European leg was a great success in terms of participation, with 200,000 on-site spectators watching as the World Champions were crowned in both the men’s and women’s categories. The Australian surfer Tyler Wright won the 2016 Women’s World Title during the French leg in Hossegor, while the Hawaiian athlete John John Florence achieved the Men’s Title at the Moche Rip Curl Pro Portugal in Peniche.

Among the Jeep branded activities offered during the European competitions, was the exclusive shuttle service organized for the WSL athletes involving Jeep Wrangler, the iconic Jeep that embodies the claim, "Go anywhere, Do anything" and Jeep Renegade, the compact multi-award winning SUV designed for off-road adventures. At the "Jeep Lounge" located at the Sponsors’ Village, guests were able to book a test drive of both models: almost 450 test drives took place, involving visitors in a challenging course featuring obstacles and extreme tricks that can be found in real off-road driving. In France and Portugal the public also took part in "Jeep Ride", a game dedicated to the surfing community available on the Jeep-people platform at www.jeep-people.com. A total of 7,000 players tested their skills with the game on board Jeep Wrangler, Jeep Renegade and the legendary Willys MB model and competed for a once-in-a-lifetime 5-day trip to Hawaii to attend the last stage of the WSL Championship Tour (Billabong Pipe Masters, December 8-20, Oahu).

Finally, the Brazilian championship tour athlete Filipe Toledo and the talented young Italian surfer Roberto D’Amico, both world-class surfers as well as Jeep Ambassadors, were accessible to fans during the European competitions. In particular, the Jeep brand was proudly by the side of its Ambassadors during the day dedicated to the signing sessions that took place in Hossegor and which was organized by the main sponsors of the WSL Championship Tour.

The European events of the prestigious WSL Championship Tour are just a part of the partnership between the World Surf League and the Jeep brand, a global agreement established last year and representing a unique opportunity to let the public discover the brand’s affinity with surfing and above all the Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Renegade models, the official cars of the WSL competitions.
