Abarth 124 rally Flies to Victory in the Rallye Aveyron Rouergue Occitanie in France

  • Resounding success in R-GT+ and in the 2WD category, confirmed by the fifth place in the overall ranking scored by young French driver Nicolas Ciamin.
  • The Abarth 124 rally also scored a special stage overall win in the race which saw 140 crews and no fewer than 22 all-wheel-drive cars in the R5 category on the starting line.

The Abarth 124 rally muscled its way to the top in the French Rally Championship. In the Rallye Aveyron Rouergue Occitanie, the fifth round of the French Championship, young driver Nicolas Ciamin (FRA), in team with Antony Vilanova (FRA), scored a clear win in the R-GT+ and 2WD category, landing an excellent fifth place in the overall ranking for the Abarth 124 rally of the Team Milano Racing. These results are particularly important because the French championship is a particularly competitive one and was achieved in a race which saw 140 crews on the starting line, of which 22 at the wheel of 4WD cars.

The driver, who is part of the French Federation's young talent programme, put up a gutsy fight demonstrating that his potentials are well supported by the capabilities of the Abarth 124 rally and securing him the best overall time in the sixth and last special stage of the race. The second round started equally fast, with the third overall time in the first timed stage of the day.

Nicolas Ciamin was extremely satisfied of his performance. "In this race, we showed everyone that in the right conditions the Abarth 124 rally can fight for the absolute ranking. Its very low centre of gravity promotes excellent road holding, particularly on the faster stretches, on which the car feels like it is travelling on rails with very accurate and profitable lines", he said. "This win means we are back in contention for the French Championship title".

This weekend brings the Team Milano Racing team's R-GT wins this season with the Abarth 124 rally to a total of four, including Raphael Astier (FRA) prestigious victory in the Tour de Corse valid for the R-GT FIA Cup. The next round of GT world championship will be held in Italy during the Rally di Roma Capitale on July 20 and 22.
